Sassy Stoneware Set
Fabulous Fish
Look at this clay cutie of a fish. So much detail...right down to the smile on its face. Its raku firing is evident on the side with the holes. And the holes are there because it is an ocarina which, in the right hands, can play sweet music.
Marvelous Masks
These clay masks are over eight inches in height and width. With the attention to detail and multi-layer glaze technique, these one of a kind pieces can't help but command your attention.

It's all about the details
Look at the detail on this stoneware container. The leaves on this "hops-vine leaf" inspired container were hand traced using real hop leaves. The skillful blending of different glazes, applied with a brush on each leaf, achieved a wonderfully colorful but complementary surface. About 7 inches tall, hand built, ^5/6 oxidation fired.

This stylish clay mouse is a foot tall. So much painterly talent was needed to glaze the details on the dress and face.

Never enough raku
Even the different photographic angles don't do this this raku bird justice. In person the green glaze looks like Italian marble and the tan/brown side has an iridescent sheen.

Raku Chickadee
This cute ceramic chickadee has a beautiful crackle design due to the method of its firing. After the bisque firing, it was glazed and raku fired. You never know what you'll get when you take it out of the smoldering ashes. But here we've got a real gem.

Large mask
This large mask is made of clay, fired to cone 5 in an electric kiln. The surface detail and sculpting of the facial features is what gives this piece much expression and presence.
Abstract bowls with glass
A beautiful collection of bowls. The dark glaze accentuates the melted pool of actual colored glaze. Fired at cone 5, electric kiln.

Greenman
This Greenman sculpture using impressions of native Gambel Oak leaves in porcelain clay, was inspired by the medieval English carvings representing pre-Christian images. Cobalt oxide was used to emphasize the vein patterns and background of the oak leaves which combined with Emerald Green glaze to create a beautiful deep blue-green color.

Landscape Vase Series
Hand-built porcelain (with added ball clay) vases are 10" tall and have various combinations of overlapping glazes, such as Bamboo Ash Matte, Celadon Froth, Plum, Agate, Colonial White and Snowflake to create the landscapes.
To achieve the dimensional surface effect on this vase, a wax resist for the branches and layered glazes of Snowflake over Plum were used.

A little bit of Utah
The Sego Lily is the state flower of Utah which is depicted here in clay. The darker base is formed with Utah clay/soil.
A Hackberry branch was impressed and darkened with a stain made from Dimple Dell, Utah soil.
This tray which is over a foot long, has impressed images also stained with Dimple Dell slip/stain.

Never enough bowls
The clay classes exploration of the plasticity of clay resulted in this collection of free-form/hand-built bowls. Quite beautiful with a glaze combination of Laguna's snowflake over celadon froth. And useful too!

Unfortunately this photo doesn't show all the beautiful iridescence of the glaze as a result of raku firing.

Landscape trays
These trays are over a 12" long. Various glazes such as Laguna's Snowflake, Celadon Froth, Agate and Colonial white have been carefully layered to create the beautiful impression of mountains and sky.
Shield for the wall, turtle for the garden
Both clay creations are about a foot in size. The glazes were mostly Mayco's Stroke & Coat cone 5 with one exception. The red on the shield is Laguna's dynasty red. It is one of the colors of the Lithuanian flag which is what the knight on the horse symbolize.
Toil to coil
To give you an idea of sizes, the brown coil pot is 14" tall. The neck area of the pot was wheel thrown and then added at the leather hard stage.
This coil pot is 11" tall including lid with knob. The lid was thrown on the wheel and is 10" in diameter. The glaze is Laguna's Agate ^ 5 with an oxidation firing.
